Health 1st Liver Oil

Overview

Samrach Film Production was commissioned to develop a relatable, engaging TV commercial for Health 1st Cod Liver Oil, designed to increase awareness and consumer trust in Ethiopia’s growing health supplement market. The spot follows a group of young Ethiopian women as they enter a pharmacy seeking general wellness advice. Through a natural, friendly exchange with the pharmacist, they’re introduced to the benefits of Health 1st Cod Liver Oil — sparking a conversation about health, energy, and daily self-care.

Project Objectives

The commercial aimed to:

• Highlight the key benefits of cod liver oil (vitamin A, D, and omega-3s)

• Present Health 1st as a trustworthy, locally-available wellness solution

• Target urban Ethiopian consumers — especially young women and families — with a message of preventative care and vitality

• Drive retail interest across pharmacies and wellness outlets

Project Scope & Strategy

The project included concept development, casting, location scouting, wardrobe, scripting, and full production. Our strategy focused on creating a familiar real-life scenario — walking into a pharmacy — that would immediately resonate with viewers and allow for organic product placement. We built the narrative around a conversation-driven scene, maintaining authenticity while still ensuring clarity on product benefits.

Design & Production

Shot on location in a real pharmacy, the film uses soft, natural lighting and handheld camerawork to create a candid and warm feel. Subtle branding elements were integrated throughout the set, and the pharmacy environment allowed us to frame the product as both medical-grade and approachable. Casting reflected the brand’s target demographic, while dialogue was written to feel genuine yet informative.

Post-Production

Our editors enhanced the pacing and tone with light background music, tight dialogue editing, and clean transitions. The product was subtly highlighted using motion graphics and close-up inserts. We also produced alternate cut-down versions for social media, in addition to the main 30-second and 60-second TV formats.

Distribution & Promotion

The commercial was launched through a combination of TV placements, pharmacy POS displays, and digital promotion via YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram. It was also shared directly by Health 1st’s retail and distribution partners as part of their in-store marketing.

Lessons Learned

This project reinforced the importance of grounding product messaging in real-life context and relatable characters. By keeping the tone conversational and visually authentic, we created a spot that feels both informative and trustworthy — boosting brand credibility while connecting with Ethiopian audiences on a personal level.
